El cantante británico Gary Glitter, estrella del glam-rock en los años 1970, fue declarado este jueves culpable de abusar sexualmente de tres niñas.

Glitter, de 70 años, cuyo verdadero nombre es Paul Gadd, conocerá su sentencia el 27 de febrero.

Un tribunal de Londres le declaró culpable de tentativa de violación (de una niña de menos de 10 años), de otros cuatro delitos de abusos sexuales a menores y de haber mantenido relaciones sexuales con una muchacha de 13 años (la edad mínima en el Reino Unido es 16 años).

Glitter ya fue condenado en 2006 en Vietnam por abusar sexualmente de dos niñas.

El cantante se hizo famoso hace cuatro décadas con canciones como "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)", "I Love You Love Me Love" y "Always Yours".

British glam rocker Gary Glitter could spend the rest of his life in prison after being found guilty at a London court on Thursday of sex abuse against three young girls.

Glitter, 70, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was convicted of one count of attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.

The jury of five men and seven women acquitted Gadd of three other counts after deliberating for two days at the end of a two-week trial.

Prosecutor John Price described how a drunken Gadd had tried to force himself on a girl, who was aged under 10 at the time, in the mid-1970s.

The victim only came forward 20 years after the incident when she saw Gadd had admitted in 1999 to child pornography charges.

Glitter was convicted in Vietnam in 2006 of sexually abusing two girls.

The singer shot to fame in the 1970s and had over 20 hit singles like "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)", "I Love You Love Me Love" and "Always Yours".

He will be sentenced on February 27.
